Version 4.0 Beta Installation Testing

Still no specific release date for beta testers.   Still no definite plans.

I've been assisting the development team today with the install set for v4 Beta.

There were 25 controls and all baring a couple were functioning properly.

The trial version restriction kicks in at 1 minute and was freezing VB IDE so there was not much I could do to test and get to know the features.

I won't write "soon", but I will write that this is definitely a viable product (no longer vapor ware) and I believe close to full beta release.

And not just a few controls for the initial release as previously reported, but all 25 controls are reported to be released in the v4 Beta.

Version 4.0 Prices Set

The Retail version of XPSuite v4.0 price has now been set to $249 USD.

Beta Release Delayed

As many of you have already noticed, we have delayed releasing and starting beta testing on XPSuite's latest version.  The decision was made to develop and incorporate into all the controls, a special designer wizard by which a user (you) could set the effects properties during design time versus only developing and seeing your results at runtime.  After initial testing with a few testers it quickly became apparent that a more robust way of dealing with the effects, other than runtime only, was necessary.  And so we have developed the Effects Designer as shown below.

XPSuite Effects Designer

The Effects Designer provides a simple means of dealing with the vast array of effects now built into the XPSuite controls.  The above illustration depicts the designer setting the effects for the XPFrame.  As you can see from the frame image, XPSuite version 4.0 is a significant departure from previous versions in customizing the appearance of the controls.  The above example shows the frame with a drop shadow, skinned, and embossed.  In addition, the frame now can incorporate a tab header.

In addition to the Effects Designer, we have launched a detailed help system for both effects, and the designer.

Nice, but when can I play with it?

Instead of padding some date way into the future, and since posting of the beta version 4.0 controls is so close, we are now on a day to day basis.  So please keep monitoring the beta release site, as the controls are posted.

XPSuite version 4.0 will be released second quarter of 2005.  This latest version couples all the features of the previous versions with several new enhancements.  Three new standards have been incorporated into version 4.0.  They are:

New Resource DLL
XPSuite now incorporates a new resource dll which handles all drawing requirements for each control.  This greatly reduces the memory requirements consumed by GDI objects, thereby dramatically reducing the overall memory consumption of a project built using XPSuite controls.

XPSuite Controls now support Custom Skinning!
XPSuite version 4.0 controls have completely changed the way they draw themselves.  Instead of limiting their images to the XPLuna color schemes, all controls now base their appearance on assigned skins.  XPSuite version 4.0 still has all three XPLuna color schemes as before.  However, if you desire your own distinct look, then change them to anything you desire.

With 1,000's of custom created visual styles posted on the internet, free for download, you can take advantage of already created skins, or create skins of your own.

In addition to the images and skins on the internet, we will start adding skin packs, specifically designed to run on the controls, to the media area.  These skin packs will be free for customer download.  In addition, customers can submit packs they have created, and we will post them with your name.  In time we are hoping the community will have created a substantial bank of skins.

  New Imaging DLL
XPSuite now incorporates a real time imaging dll that gives XPSuite controls fantastic effects similar to those found in such programs as PhotoShop.

Effects such as DropShadows (true shadows!), Blurs, Motion Blurs, Morphing, Linear and Radial Gradients, Mosaic, Flipping, Stretching, Alpha Channels, Speckle, Color Histograms, are just a few of the powerful effects included in the XPImage40 control.  You can open virtually any type of image from bmp to png.  You can add as many images to the control as you desire, set alpha properties, do free hand drawing, and more.

For the other controls in the XPSuite collection, we have incorporated such things as true drop shadows and alpha.

Ever wanted your label or button captions to glow during mouse events?  Here's an example of what you can do, realtime, with the control's effects.

XPSuite 4.0 Includes 3 New Controls!
XPSuite version 4.0 will ship with three (3) new controls; XPGrid, XPForm, and the XPTree.

XPSuite 4.0 Includes a New Help System!
The new XPSuite version 4.0 Help System includes nearly 5,000 pages of help, how to's and instructions for skinning.

XPSuite 4.0 Controls Enhanced ToolTips and Balloon Captions
The new XPSuite version 4.0 controls are now taking full advantage of our new imaging effects library.  All controls which utilize a tooltip, now have several styles to choose from.  Here's an example of the thought balloon tip style with dropshadows.

OK... So what's the bottom line if I already own XPSuite!
Although, version 4.0 is a dramatic departure from previous versions of XPSuite, we are still committed to our free upgrade policy.  And so, if you are a registered user of XPSuite at the time of version 4.0's release,  you will receive your new serial number upon request free of charge!  We do anticipate a price increase for new purchases.

Want to be a XPSuite 4.0 Beta Tester?
Send an email to support@ciatheco.com  requesting to be a XPSuite 4.0 beta tester, and we will sign you up and send you the XPSuite version 4.0 beta release.  Please note:  Requests for Beta Testers is restricted to registered users only.

XPSuiteNet 4.0 to be released along side it's Visual Basic counterpart!
XPSuiteNet has been written 100% in ATL, and will be compatable with all IDE's! So now Net users can take advantage of the powerful XPSuite controls. Plans are to complete the beta testing of the Visual Basic XPSuite 4.0 controls, then release the Net version.

the .Net version will NO LONGER be a free upgrade for current users of XPSuite.

The Net Suite of controls wil include all the controls found in it's Visual Basic cousin, including the new imaging features.
